1st Saturday Amador Art Trek

1st Saturday Amador Art Trek

1st Saturday
of the Month
11:00-6:00 pm

Take a trip on the Amador Art Trek this month.  First Saturday Amador Art Trek is a free self-guided walk or drive-and-walk tour that provides easy public access to where art is located. Part of Art Trek is the monthly “1st Saturday” when many participating galleries have receptions in the afternoon to kick-off their new shows.

You can go on the Art Trek ANYTIME that the 12 galleries are open. Go to www.amadorarts.org to find the details about each month’s specific gallery events. A brochure is out in the galleries that will highlight the gallery participants. It’s a quick reference guide -- map, names, addresses, and hours.

Here is a brief listing in alphabetical order of participating galleries and if they have featured art in November:

Add Art- Jackson.  Fine art framing services and the colorful original work of the late John Johannsen are featured.  This world renowned artist’s vibrant and whimsical canvases are sought after by many collectors. Even though his home/studio burned to the ground last year, here is where you can still see and buy Johannsen’s rare works.

Fine Eye Gallery- Sutter Creek – For November: Andy Byrne and Lorra Lee Rose. Using scrap metal in an untraditional manner, Andy Byrne makes provocative pieces out of simple components.  Design elements are derived from his fascination with Euclidian and Fractal Geometry; each piece is exceptional and one of a kind.   it can take years for Lorra Lee Rose to collect enough feathers to make one of her signature masks. she places them, one at a time, with painstaking detail, using hot glue. Her monumental 3-year project the feather fairy is now on display in the gallery.  Open daily 10-5:30.

Gallery 10 - Sutter Creek.  For November: Sharon Galligan  will be showing her collection of watercolors, acrylics and oil paintings with subjects of California and European scenes. Winterdance A Celtic Christmas

Interdance: A Celtic Christmas Celebration” presented by Molly’s Revenge – with Celtic dancers!Dynamic. Acoustic. Celtic.

Join Molly’s Revenge and special guest vocalist Christa Burch with the Rosemary Turco Irish Dancers for an evening of music, song and dance associated with the festive season. The performance will include Christmas songs both old and new from many lands, all played with a Celtic twist. You’ll have an opportunity to join in and sing some of your favorite carols, and our dancing guests will surely set your toes tapping.

Molly’s Revenge, whose lineup includes bagpipes, fiddle, whistle, guitar, mandola, and bouzouki, have toured extensively in the USA and in Australia, China and Scotland. The band is known for its unique and infectious on-stage enthusiasm. The classic combination of bagpipes, whistle, fiddle, and song, with guitar, bouzouki, and mandola accompaniment, guarantees an enjoyable experience for all fans of Scottish and Irish music. Their arrangements of traditional jigs and reels bring these dance tunes up to date with a driving, hard- edged accent that always leaves audiences shouting for more.

Guest vocalist Christa Burch possesses a singular voice: warm, supple, expressive, intimate, and instantly recognizable. Part of a vibrant new generation of American folk singers, Christa deftly marries intuitive musicianship and storytelling through song.

“There is an engaging freshness and yet an impressive maturity in their playing. There is also a lovely balance of repertoire, alternating a familiar with a most arcane selection of tunes and songs.” –Mick Moloney, National Heritage Award recipient.

“The instruments are traditional… but the wild passion they exhibit is thoroughly modern.” –MetroSantaCruz (CA)

Knight Foundry Open House

Knight Foundry Open House

Monthly, 2nd Saturday
Tours Start at 10am, 12pm, and 2pm

The Knight Foundry, set in the heart of Sutter Creek, is America’s last water-powered foundry and machine shop. Established in 1873 by Samuel Knight, this extraordinary facility includes the unique historic equipment and machinery, still in place in its original context, just as it was during its gold rush-era heyday.

Knight Foundry never significantly modernized; the original machinery is still powered by patented Knight Water Motors via a system of line shafts and belt drives. In addition to a full complement of tools and machinery, no other site preserves an unbroken line of nearly extinct foundry skills down to the present. These skills associated with the foundry craft are another unique element of the site’s historic fabric.Samuel N. Knight (1838-1913) and the other skilled artisans who worked there were a major, albeit unsung, source of technological invention, innovation and engineering for early California industry.

Knight Foundry is nationally recognized as a National Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark and a California Registered Historical Landmark. The Foundry is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been named by the National Trust for Historic Preservation as one of America’s eleven most endangered historic places.

TOUR FEES: Adults 18 and over, $10, students 5-17, $5, children under 5, free.

A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol

Friday, 12/22/17
5:30PM

Hearkening back to the "good old days," when families gathered around the radio for their evening's entertainment, the Drama Department of Argonaut High School is joining forces with Hometown Radio to broadcast a recorded-live performance of A Christmas Carol. The holiday classic will be performed in front of a live audience in the Multi-Purpose Room of Argonaut High School.

The Friday night performance is only one part of the evening's family-friendly festivities, guaranteed to get everyone into the holiday spirit. Ticket prices for the spaghetti dinner and show are only $12.50 when purchased by December 18 and $17.50 at the door. Children aged 4-10 are $7.50.

Watkins co-founded Nickel Creek when he was 12 years old, kick starting a career that’s taken him from the stage of the Grammy Awards to the top of the bluegrass charts.

He is an award-winning guitarist, a singer/songwriter and one of the early pioneers of a genre now known across the world as Americana.

Folk fans are familiar with Nickel Creek’s story. Formed decades ago as a bluegrass trio, the group expanded its sound and its popularity with albums like the Grammy winning This Side, which became a crossover hit on the bluegrass, country and pop charts in 2002.  Meanwhile, Watkins has played with musicians from many genres, even joining the tours of legendary songwriters like Jackson Browne and Lyle Lovett.

Working with those icons felt like going to music school, and Watkins learned all the lessons he could.

The venue is intimate and Watkins world class.  Feist offers wood fired pizza starting at 6 p.m.

Tickets are available at the tasting room.

Black Irish Band's Christmas Show

Black Irish Band's Christmas Show

Friday
December 12/29/17
8:00pm

This will be a special Winter evening with Sonora’s Black Irish Band. Performing songs to fill your cold winter night with much warmth!

When you take Celtic, Spanish, and Italian Music, and mix it up, you get the true nature of the Black Irish Band. For twenty-six years this band has created an original sound that no other band has. With over 600 concert performances to date and airplay around the world, the band has kept very busy spreading their brand of progressive folk music to a large audience. Performing both traditional and original music the band is very focused on presenting acoustic music in a very exciting up-beat way that appeals to all ages. The band has written and recorded 96 original songs that appear on many of the bands twenty-five CD recordings. Many of the original works written by the band are based on Celtic history.
Hailing from the historic Gold Rush Country of America, the four members Black Irish Band of twenty–six years, have a musical style that is as timeless as the rugged landscape of the west, a tribute to the people whose lives were spent building the world we now take for granted. The band has a large compliment of traditional maritime and railroad music, as well as ethnic tunes in their repertoire. They excel at Irish & Scottish, Italian, and American folk music with an assortment of original songs and traditional western ballads. The bands musical style captures the spirit of the immigrants of this land, the men and women who tamed the Wild West.
