For over 100 years our Serbian-American population has celebrated on the 7th day of January, (13 days after December 25th) with a volley of rifle shots to announce that Christ Is Born.
There is a procession through Main St. Jackson starting approximately 12pm. The traditional volley of shots (with a police escort) in front of the National Hotel, St. Sava's Church on North Main St., and St. Sava's Mission on Broadway herald this unique local celebration.
Know that you are safe and all is well as the rifles are not loaded with live rounds. It's your neighbor celebrating and keeping alive the rich traditions of the old country and wishing you every happiness this Holiday Season with great prosperity and good health in the New Year!
You are invited to enjoy an afternoon of music at the National Hotel on the first Sunday of the month.
Events are held on the main floor just off the lobby. Tickets are $20, seating is limited.
