Thanks to early settlers, some of California's oldest vineyards are in Amador County. Snuggled mostly in the Shenandoah Valley, northeast of Plymouth, wineries reflect the continued focus on utilizing nature’s assets for a commercial economy.

Mostly family operations built on self-reliance and hard work, the county’s 30 plus wineries grow more than 2,700 acres of grapes and produce some of the best zinfandels in America. Amador's production of intensely flavored red wines can be attributed to its high percentage of old vines. About 600 acres of the county’s vines are at least 60-years old. Several vineyards date to the 19th century. Combining such impressive facts with Amador’s favorable climate, where temperatures can drop 35 degrees in the evening when breezes cascade from the Sierra, make Amador a vintner’s paradise.
