Developed campgrounds - The Eldorado National Forest has over 70 developed facilities including family and group campgrounds, picnic areas, boatramps, and rental cabins.
Dispersed camping (undeveloped) - If you like to camp "away from it all" but you want to drive there in your car. Most of the land in the National Forest is open to camping, free of charge, just for the choosing. You may camp practically anywhere that camping is not specifically prohibited. Simply find the place that suits you, pick your own spot, and camp
Fishing - The angler has many opportnities to experience fine fishing on this forest. The Forest has many coldwater reservoirs, most with developed boating access ramps and campgrounds. Hundreds of lakes lie in the Desolation Wilderness and Mokelumne Wilderness for your backpacking or horsepacking enjoyment. Many are stocked by nature with reproducing brook trout. Presently most reservoirs are stocked with trout by California Department of Fish and Game, and several of our rivers on the forest are stocked with catchable trout.
Motorized use trails - Off-Highway Vehicle users will find many opportunities for off-road enjoyment in the Eldorado National Forest. In return for the privilege of operating your OHV on public lands, you assume considerable responsibilities. By handling your machine properly and using common sense, you can help make sure this area will remain beautiful and enjoyable to visit in the future
Non-motorized use trails - Multi-use trails allow visitors interested in different recreational activities the opportunity to venture out and create their own outdoor experience while utilizing the same trail systems. Many non-motorized trails are open to hikers, cyclists and equestrian users. Walk pedal or ride to view the varied terrain of the western slope of the Sierra Nevada Region
Recreation residences - This program gives private citizens the opportunity to own a single family cabin in designated areas on National Forest land.
Rental cabins - The Eldorado National Forest has three cabin facilities available for rental.
Safety - Knowledge of the area, weather, terrain, limitations of your body, plus a little common sense can help to ensure a safe and enjoyable trip.
Shooting - Although no designated shooting areas exist on the forest, plinking and target shooting are allowed on National Forest land.
Wilderness - The Eldorado National Forest assists in the management of two designated Wilderness Areas.
